Cadiz Viejo National High School made it again in the 2010 National Achievement Test (NAT) given to second year students by getting the 3rd spot in the division ranking of the 18 secondary schools in Cadiz City after it had 20% MPS increase from last year's 34% MPS to this year's 54%.
In the 2009 NAT, CVNHS dropped from No. 3, a ranking it occupied for two consecutive school years, after its dismal showing in the National Achievement Test to No. 14 in the whole Division of Cadiz City.
Alarmed and bothered by its poor showing in the 2009 NAT, the school teachers led by its school principal, Mr. Arellano B. Adion, did an evaluation of its poor academic performance as seen in the drop of its national test results and implemented varied interventions including the conduct of Saturday Review Classes and even providing free snacks to entice students to attend the NAT reviews.
CVNHS teachers attributed its improved performance in the 2010 National Achievement Test to the diagnostic tests it had through the conduct of a parallel test and analyzing results to help them identify the priority areas for the NAT review.
The school's better performance in 2010 has been achieved despite the problems on limited financial resources, and the accessibility of the school to students due to distance and availability of transportation.
The recent guidelines issued by the regional office, giving those schools in Region VI with the MPS of 45% the go signal to attend regional and national seminars and trainings outside of the province and region, have become very rewarding e. nlivened the spirits of CVNHS teachers and inspired them to work harder to maintain, if not to improved further its NAT performance.
